All the latest updates and news down Walford way!

The time has come next week to say goodbye to a long-loved stalwart of Albert Square, as the community comes together to lay our beloved Nigel Bates to rest…

But this is Walford. Nothing ever goes exactly how it’s supposed to. With Julie supported by the residents and her returning son Josh, not to mention Clare, the Walfordians are prepared to say goodbye in a truly unique way. But where, oh where, are the Mitchells?
After Mark‘s warning from boss Russell last week, it gets worse. As Grant prepares to aid his brother and sister in supporting Julie on the day, Mark is taken captive by his boss, forcing the Mitchells siblings to go in full force – and almost missing the funeral to boot!

Elsewhere in Albert Square, Max is furious when some of Lauren‘s vintage cars are found not only nicked, but at the bottom of a quarry! Max suspects something dodgy – and he would be right – but Lauren is left even more confused. Can Mark really be trusted?

And as Lauren starts putting the pieces together, Oscar is dealing with his own troubles… The youngest Branning is in a relationship with the recently-released Jasmine Fisher – who has no idea that Oscar also spent the night with her twin brother Josh. This week, as the three begin to spend some quality time together, Oscar is clearly finding it harder and harder to keep his attraction to Josh to himself.

Also this week, there’s more concern about Denise. The BBC have announced that this is the start of the one biggest storylines of the year, and it puts Denise in the spotlight, as actress Diane Parish celebrates 20 years on Albert Square!
Denise has been feeling tired and drained over the last few months, and has been urged by unlikely friend Sam to seek medical advice. Unfortunately, as the story continues, Denise will find herself diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), a type of blood cancer. This may also explain the state of husband Jack in the flashforward to New Year’s Day 2027… Will Denise come through her illness in one piece, or is there a reason Libby is so worried in the flashforward?

Also this week, Gina struggles with her grandfather’s place on the Square and tries speaking to George about her concerns. But will she get through to her dad, or will poisonous Eddie cause even more toxic drama..?

Until next time…

The Brannings learn that vintage vehicles from the car lot have been found burned in a quarry. Mark denies any knowledge and Sam helpfully gives him a false alibi, so Lauren starts to suspect Max.
With Lauren’s financial pressures growing, Mark manipulates her into the possibility of dealing with illegitimate cars. Things come to a head when Peter reveals that Jimmy’s nursery has a place they can’t afford. Lauren urges Mark to call his contact about the stolen cars.
Meanwhile, Oscar struggles with his growing attraction to both Josh and Jasmine. Before long, he shares a charged moment with Josh but pulls away.
Elsewhere, Gina expresses her concerns about Eddie, but George avoids having the conversation.

The first car arrives for Mark and Lauren’s scam. Max is suspicious and asks Jack to investigate Mark. Jack discovers some of Mark’s past dodgy dealings, but suggests that Max shouldn’t tell Lauren yet.
Mark worries when he receives a warning from the people he owes money to. He considers stealing from the car lot safe, but changes his mind after a message from Lauren piques his guilt. Although Mark finally considers taking Grant up on his offers to help, he’s soon bundled into a van by masked men and driven off!
Meanwhile, Josh and Oscar agree that they need to put distance between them so that nobody gets hurt. However, Oscar is soon left jealous when he spots Josh embracing attention from another guy at The Albert.
Elsewhere, Sam’s concerns grow when Denise explains that she’s tired for no reason.

The day of Nigel’s funeral arrives but Grant is distracted by Mark’s disappearance. Grant then receives a call from Russell, who wants the full payment to be made. The situation gets worse when Russell overhears Sam in the background, as they have history.
Phil is adamant that Nigel’s funeral can’t be overshadowed, so they’ll deal with Russell afterwards.
However, despite agreeing to go after the funeral, Phil, Grant, Sam and Billy decide to find Mark immediately. After a tense stand-off, the Mitchells return to Walford.
Everyone gathers at the church, where the funeral is emotional tribute to Nigel’s life. Afterwards, Julie and Phil share a heartfelt moment – but Sam soon interrupts and demands some alone time for the Mitchell siblings.

Lauren has sold enough cars to meet the target set by Max, who congratulates her but also questions where the vehicles came from. He advises his daughter to be careful.
Later, when Max finds some missing keys that Mark dropped during his trip to the car lot earlier in the week, he pressures Priya for answers on what’s going on.
Meanwhile, Grant ends up in a heated argument with Harvey after heading to The Vic alone. Kat is forced to throw him out before things get out of hand.
Elsewhere, Julie finally opens Nigel’s letter.
