The time has come next week to say goodbye to a long-loved stalwart of Albert Square, as the community comes together to lay our beloved Nigel Bates to rest…

But this is Walford. Nothing ever goes exactly how it’s supposed to. With Julie supported by the residents and her returning son Josh, not to mention Clare, the Walfordians are prepared to say goodbye in a truly unique way. But where, oh where, are the Mitchells?

After Mark‘s warning from boss Russell last week, it gets worse. As Grant prepares to aid his brother and sister in supporting Julie on the day, Mark is taken captive by his boss, forcing the Mitchells siblings to go in full force – and almost missing the funeral to boot!

Elsewhere in Albert Square, Max is furious when some of Lauren‘s vintage cars are found not only nicked, but at the bottom of a quarry! Max suspects something dodgy – and he would be right – but Lauren is left even more confused. Can Mark really be trusted?

And as Lauren starts putting the pieces together, Oscar is dealing with his own troubles… The youngest Branning is in a relationship with the recently-released Jasmine Fisher – who has no idea that Oscar also spent the night with her twin brother Josh. This week, as the three begin to spend some quality time together, Oscar is clearly finding it harder and harder to keep his attraction to Josh to himself.

Also this week, there’s more concern about Denise. The BBC have announced that this is the start of the one biggest storylines of the year, and it puts Denise in the spotlight, as actress Diane Parish celebrates 20 years on Albert Square!

Denise has been feeling tired and drained over the last few months, and has been urged by unlikely friend Sam to seek medical advice. Unfortunately, as the story continues, Denise will find herself diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), a type of blood cancer. This may also explain the state of husband Jack in the flashforward to New Year’s Day 2027… Will Denise come through her illness in one piece, or is there a reason Libby is so worried in the flashforward?

Also this week, Gina struggles with her grandfather’s place on the Square and tries speaking to George about her concerns. But will she get through to her dad, or will poisonous Eddie cause even more toxic drama..?

Until next time…
