Harry Slater, born in January 1946, was the younger brother of Charlie Slater. He grew up in Walford and eventually became a successful bar owner. However, Harry’s dark side emerged in the early 1980s when he began grooming his niece, Kat Slater. By the time Kat turned 13, Harry’s grooming escalated to sexual abuse, resulting in Kat becoming pregnant with his child. In February 1984, Kat gave birth to a daughter, Zoe Slater, and minutes later, unexpectedly, to a son, Luke Slater. Kat’s mother, Viv, lied to her, claiming the second birth was just the afterbirth, and secretly put Luke up for adoption. Viv and Kat’s nan, Mo Harris, decided to keep Zoe, raising her as their own daughter, with Kat taking on the role of Zoe’s sister. Harry moved to Spain soon after the incident and only returned briefly for his sister Violet’s funeral in 1988.

Harry made a dramatic return to Walford in May 2001, to visit Charlie and his family. He quickly fell for Peggy Mitchell, the owner of The Queen Vic, and they got engaged, planning to move to Spain together. However, things took a turn when Zoe announced she was leaving Walford to live with Harry, unaware he was her father. Kat was furious and, during a heated argument, revealed to Zoe that she was her biological mother and that Harry was her father. The revelation led to a confrontation between Charlie and Harry, with Charlie attacking Harry and demanding he leave Walford for good.

Not long after, Kat confronted Harry, who tried to justify his actions. Kat called him a “fat old perv” and revealed that Zoe knew the truth about him. Harry called Kat a bitch and left in a taxi. Devastated, Kat attempted suicide but was found by Zoe and rushed to the hospital. The following year, Charlie received news that Harry had died from a heart attack. Harry left Zoe £18,000 in his will, but Zoe, seeing how much it upset Kat, burned the cheque, declaring she didn’t need his money.
