Simon Raymond, older brother to Tiffany Mitchell, made his dramatic entrance in Albert Square in June 1996, bringing with him a mix of charm and complexity. Raised alongside Tiffany by their abusive, alcoholic father Terry after their mother Louise left, Simon’s early life was anything but easy. He eventually came to terms with his sexuality, beginning a relationship with a man named Howard. Unfortunately, the relationship turned abusive, prompting Simon to leave for Walford in search of his sister.
Upon his arrival, Simon quickly settled in and found himself drawn to Tony Hills, who just so happened to be dating his sister, Tiffany. The chemistry between Simon and Tony was undeniable, leading to a memorable kiss in Blackpool. Tony, still grappling with his sexuality, claimed it was a one-off and reassured Tiffany of his feelings. Simon, caught in an emotional whirlwind, decided to stay silent. However, as months passed, he grew tired of Tony’s indecisiveness and issued an ultimatum: Tony had to choose, or Simon would leave. Tony admitted his true feelings with a passionate kiss, only for them to be interrupted by Tiffany, adding another layer of drama to the square.
Their relationship was a rollercoaster of emotions, with Simon and Tony experiencing several ups and downs. Despite the turbulence, they managed to navigate their feelings and commitment to each other. Their bond deepened over time, even as the challenges kept coming, including dealing with Tiffany’s reactions and the scrutiny of those around them.
In April 1999, Simon and Tony decided to take a bold step together, leaving Walford to travel the world.
