Jase Dyer’s arrival in Walford brought a mix of charm and chaos. He came looking for his estranged son, Jay Brown, but quickly made waves by flirting with Honey Mitchell, much to her husband Billy’s annoyance. When Billy discovered Jase’s probation office visits, he revealed Jase’s criminal past to the community, turning them against him. Jay, feeling betrayed by his father’s lies, acted out and got himself arrested, but this ordeal ironically brought Jase and Jay closer together.

Jase’s past caught up with him when he reunited with Terry Bates, a gang leader who had looked after him as a teenager and led him into trouble. Determined to leave his criminal past behind for Jay’s sake, Jase refused to rejoin Terry’s gang, leading to a brutal attack at The Queen Victoria pub. A pregnant Honey Mitchell’s intervention only made things worse, resulting in her going into premature labour. Fuelled by rage, Jase vowed revenge on Terry but was stopped by Phil Mitchell, who had his own vendettas and roped Jase into them.

Jase’s romantic life was equally tumultuous. After a fling with Roxy Mitchell, he fell for Dawn Swann and proposed to her. Unbeknownst to him, he ended up working for May Wright, who had sinister plans for Dawn’s daughter, Summer. When May’s attempt to kidnap Summer turned into a gas explosion, Jase heroically saved Summer. Struggling financially, Jase turned to his old associate Terry for money, hoping to give Dawn her dream wedding. Despite Dawn’s initial fury over Jase’s criminal activities, she turned a blind eye to the dangers as she was desperate to maintain their newfound wealth.

The situation spiralled out of control when Terry set Jase up, taking Jay hostage. Jase’s plan to steal Terry’s money with Billy as his getaway driver ended in tragedy. The confrontation led to Jase being fatally beaten and stabbed by Terry’s men, while Billy hid in fear. Jase’s death on the day of his and Dawn’s wedding was a devastating blow, and Jay’s discovery of his father’s body in the mortuary added to the heartbreak.

Jase was later cremated, with his son Jay, Dawn, and friends in attendance. The aftermath of Jase’s murder saw Billy, blackmailed by Nick Cotton, finally admit his cowardice to Jay. Terry’s wife, Viv, and the gang’s threats kept the tension high, but Billy ultimately saved Jay and testified against Terry, leading to Terry’s life imprisonment.
