Fresh from a split with her husband Nico Pappas, Carly moved in with her adoptive father, Kevin Wicks, and brother, Deano. She quickly found work as a mechanic, thanks to Phil Mitchell, who even sponsored her to attend college. Carly’s early days in Walford were marked by a feud with Dawn Swann, which ended in a brawl but eventually blossomed into a close friendship. Her love life was equally eventful, with a brief romance with Martin Fowler that she ended to pursue a fling with Jake Moon, which fizzled out after a week.

Things took a turn when Carly’s estranged mother, Shirley Carter, tracked her down in Walford. Carly was furious to learn that Kevin wasn’t her biological father and that Shirley had abandoned her for years. The revelation led to a temporary bond with Shirley, but it quickly soured, culminating in Carly spitting in Shirley’s face. Despite the family drama, Carly found herself in a relationship with Sean Slater after he rescued her from a near-rape by Warren Stamp. However, the relationship ended when Sean orchestrated a beating for Deano, leading Carly to leave Walford and take a job in a gay bar.

Carly’s world was shattered when Kevin died in a car accident. She momentarily sought comfort from Shirley, who was with Kevin when he died, but quickly reverted to anger, wishing Shirley had died instead. After Kevin’s funeral, Carly left Walford with Denise Fox to scatter Kevin’s ashes around the world. While Denise returned, Carly decided to stay in Thailand, later moving to Redfern, a suburb of Sydney, Australia.

In 2012, Carly briefly returned to Walford after giving birth to a son. Phil Mitchell called her back to help Shirley, who was struggling with alcoholism after Ben Mitchell murdered Heather Trott. Carly and Shirley eventually made amends, and Carly introduced her baby son, Jimmy, to Shirley. She then convinced Shirley to leave Walford with her, hoping for a fresh start.

Despite her departure, Carly’s presence was still felt in Walford. In 2020, it was mentioned that Carly and Shirley were still on bad terms. By December 2022, after the deaths of her aunt Tina and brother Mick, Carly agreed to let Shirley stay with her, suggesting that Carly might have relocated back to England.
