Carl White was the kind of bloke who could make even the toughest residents of Walford break into a cold sweat. A drug dealer by trade, Carl’s life took a turn when he was sentenced to five years in prison. During his time behind bars, he struck up a friendship with fellow inmate Derek Branning, setting the stage for his dramatic entrance into Albert Square.

Carl’s arrival in Walford was anything but low-key. He turned up at Bianca Butcher’s house, pretending to be a plumber, only to reveal he was a friend of the late Derek Branning. This revelation led him to Alice Branning, who handed over a box containing a phone number and £10,000 that Ian Beale had conveniently “borrowed.” Carl’s menacing presence soon had Ian quaking in his boots, especially after Carl demanded £500 a week as repayment and burned Ian’s hand when he tried to resist.

Carl’s ex-girlfriend, Kirsty Branning, was another key player in his Walford saga. Despite her claims of being married and pregnant, Carl decided to stick around. His blackmailing antics didn’t stop with Ian; he also tangled with Joey Branning, who caught him dealing drugs at the R&R nightclub. This led to confrontations with Phil Mitchell and Max Branning, who were less than thrilled with Carl’s influence over Kirsty. Carl’s scheming reached new heights when he cut the brakes on his car, leading to a crash that hospitalized Phil and framed Max for the sabotage.

As if that wasn’t enough drama, Carl tried to take over Phil’s businesses while he was recovering. He even managed to make Shirley Carter disappear for a while. Kirsty, despite her better judgment, had a brief fling with Carl, which ended in her stealing £1000 from him. Carl’s fury knew no bounds when Max was released from prison without charge, leading to a kidnapping plot that saw Carl nearly meet his end at the hands of Phil and Max.

Carl’s final act in Walford was as explosive as his arrival. After a brief and tumultuous relationship with Roxy Mitchell, Carl found himself on the wrong side of her sister, Ronnie. A violent confrontation ended with Ronnie hitting Carl over the head with a champagne bottle and tying him up in Phil’s garage. When Carl attempted to rape Ronnie, she delivered the final blow by slamming a car boot onto his head, killing him instantly. In true Walford fashion, his body was disposed of by having the car crushed, ensuring Carl White’s reign of terror was well and truly over.
