Earlier this week some news broke about EastEnders‘ future – and it was a biggie.
Come New Year’s Day 2026, typically a time of aftermath over whatever happened Christmas Day, will be interrupted by a very special episode.
The whole episode will flash forward, not to a few months later, but a whole year – to 2027! At the centre of the drama will be the returning Max Branning – who we’re told will find himself in more than one sticky situation!
After all, he has a bloody rose on his suit. And it’s only a matter of time before he comes to face with Cindy Beale!
Viewers will then return to 2026 – and will have a whole year to ponder just how – and why – Max’s fortunes have unfolded the way they have! More news as we get closer…
Onto this week, and there’s more to come tonight as Oscar finds Cindy lifeless outside the Albert – courtesy of his girlfriend Jasmine! Cindy seemed to think that Jasmine could be a member of the Ford family – who she’s been hiding from since her stint in prison in 1998! But is this the truth? Or is there even more to Jasmine’s ‘father’s family’?
Next week, Howie realises that all Kim wants for Christmas is commitment – and so, Howie goes all out to make her dreams all come true! Of course, Kim – and the rest of the Trueman family – are unaware of just where Howie is getting his fancy jewellery – unaware he’s stealing from the post he delivers!
But this week, suspicious Anthony, already letting Zoe stay after yet another bust-up in the Vic, questions Howie straight – only to be blackmailed in return! Just what is Anthony hiding from his loved ones?
Also this week, Harry‘s guilt continues to grow as he meets Okie‘s grieving sister Dejia, who promptly invites Harry to her brother’s memorial! As Harry spirals further and further into addiction, can anyone help him before it’s too late?
We also say goodbye to Freddie and Anna this week as they head away together. And there’s also more drama in the Vic as Zoe, fresh from one suspect, moves onto another, causing the mother of all rows! Could Tommy really be stalking his sister?
Or is someone much more familiar in the wings..?

Freddie and Anna’s loved ones prepare for their goodbye celebrations, as they’re planning to go travelling together. Elaine makes a speech about the pair, but when the Square’s Christmas lights are switched on, everyone is horrified to see a sinister message that’s been left in The Vic’s window.
Later, when Zoe makes a discovery in Tommy’s rucksack, she realises that he might be her secret stalker.
Meanwhile, Howie is put on the spot when Patrick assumes that he’s going to propose to Kim. In the end, Howie seizes the moment by creating the perfect proposal during the lights switch-on. Kim accepts, but Anthony’s suspicions over Howie are growing.
Elsewhere, Peter is curious after spotting Lauren and Ian having a secret conversation.
Also today, Harry makes up an excuse to take Nicola’s credit card, but he’s planning to buy drugs.

Tommy protests his innocence amid Zoe’s allegations that he’s tormenting her. Zoe lashes out at him, Kat and Alfie, before heading downstairs and clashing with Vicki at the bar. With the situation at breaking point, Kat reluctantly asks Zoe to leave.
Anthony invites Zoe to stay at his place, just as the Slaters say their goodbyes to Freddie.
Meanwhile, Anthony has evidence and confronts Howie with his suspicions – but the power dynamic between them takes an unexpected turn.
Elsewhere, Anna tries to tie up loose ends before she goes – hoping to get Kojo, Gina and Harry all back on the same page.
Also today, Nicola fears that Teddy’s decision to plead guilty will have a negative impact on Harry.

After their tense conversation, Howie and Anthony are both desperate to keep their secrets.
An oblivious Kim plans her engagement party, but loose lips cause big trouble – which affects the event.
Meanwhile, Lily notices that Jean’s mental health issues are getting worse following Freddie’s departure. Lily reveals that she has spoken to Anthony, who suggested that Jean should make an appointment with him. Jean is offended and refuses to entertain the idea.
Elsewhere, Harry escapes the watchful eyes of Billy and Honey to buy more drugs. He feels even worse when Okie’s sister Dejia encourages him to attend the memorial.
Also today, Priya, Elaine, Callum, Harvey and Ian are all keen for roles in Nigel’s film.

Lauren and Zoe’s friendship is strengthened further as they discuss the mystery of Zoe’s long-lost son.
The new pals head back to Lauren’s place, unaware that someone is watching them.
Meanwhile, George decides to take the recent advice of Anna, as well as Kojo’s therapist, by talking things through with Harry. Kojo also encourages Harry to attend the memorial.
Later, when Nicola feels sick, she fails to take the chance to tell George that she’s pregnant.
Elsewhere, Lexi asks for Billy’s help to convince Phil that he should take a role in Nigel’s film.
Also today, Lily makes another plea for Jean to seek professional help.
