First off, your eyes to not deceive you! Vicki Fowler is back – this time played by Alice Haig who has taken over the role from Scarlett Johnson, who last appeared in 2004. And she’s not alone. She’s brought her man Spencer… what, wait a minute. Where’s Spencer?

Yes, it seems that Vicki has moved on to new fella Ross and his grumpy looking teenage son Joel – and they’re soon running around the Square asking relative Ian for cash! What is Vicki hiding? And why didn’t she mention her breakup with Spencer to sister Sharon?

Either way, Vicki’s sticking around, so there’s lot’s more to come. As the daughter of legacy characters Den Watts and Michelle Fowler, she’s an epic link to the past for the show’s 40th year!

We’re also delighted that Jasmine Armfield is back this week for a short stint as Sonia and Martin’s daughter Bex! Bex has been part of the show since Sonia give birth – which was a shock as she (and us) didn’t even know she was pregnant in the first place! And she was only a teenager herself!

Bex herself was adopted, but returned to Martin and Sonia when she was four and her adoptive family had passed. She left the Square with her reunited parents in 2007, and returned, played by Jasmine in 2014.

In her time on the Square she had some cracking stories of her own: she saved best friend Louise Mitchell from severe burns at the school dance, had an affair with her aunt Michelle’s toy boy lover Preston and turned to drugs to cope with the pressures of university application. She eventually left in 2020 to go travelling abroad, safe in the knowledge that Sonia and Martin were a phone call away. Until now, sadly…

Also this week, Avani goes to new measures to relieve the trauma of the last month – and it’s a very, very slippery slope…
