Maya Houssain made her memorable entrance to Albert Square in May 2024, when she bumped into Harvey Monroe. Needing directions to a cab office, she found herself chatting with Harvey, who revealed he was a cabbie. The conversation took a friendly turn when Harvey noticed Maya’s lifelong loyalty to Tottenham Hotspur, the same football team he supports. Despite being in the middle of his breakfast, Harvey couldn’t resist helping out a fellow Spurs fan.

By June, a deeper side of Maya’s story began to unfold during a conversation with Harvey, where she mentioned that her husband had passed away the previous year. However, things took a twist when it was revealed that Maya had actually tracked down Harvey to get money from him. Her plan unravelled when she dropped a letter, exposing the fact that she didn’t live in the small flat she had claimed. Harvey, determined to uncover the truth, headed to her home.

Upon arrival, Harvey discovered that Maya’s husband, Abdul Houssain, was very much alive and that Maya was struggling to care for him after an attack by Harvey’s son, Aaron Monroe. The encounter was filled with tension and regret as Maya expressed her wish to hate Harvey for what his son did, but couldn’t bring herself to because she saw him as a good man.
