Susan Rose made her debut in Walford on August 25, 1997, arriving with her son Matthew. Life took a challenging turn when Susan started suffering from multiple sclerosis, and her ex-husband, Michael, along with Matthew, stepped in to care for her. This period of hardship actually brought Susan and Michael closer together, rekindling their relationship amidst the daily struggles.

However, Walford’s drama didn’t spare Susan. In late 1998, a new market inspector, Lisa Shaw, caught Michael’s eye, leading to a brief affair. Despite the sparks with Lisa, Michael ended the fling when Susan expressed her desire to move to Leeds, blissfully unaware of her husband’s infidelity. Their relationship seemed stronger as they prepared to leave Walford together in 1999.

After their departure, Michael occasionally returned to support Matthew, who found himself embroiled in a high-profile murder trial. The real culprit behind Saskia Duncan’s death was Steve Owen, but Matthew’s involvement brought Michael back to Walford several times. Throughout all this, Susan remained out of the limelight, never returning to the Square.
