Nita Mistry, the Mumbai-born widow, brought a fresh energy to Walford when she arrived in November 2001 with her son Anish. Setting up camp at the Minute Mart, Nita quickly became a part of the Community Theatre scene, where she met and eventually started dating Robbie Jackson. Their budding romance added a touch of Bollywood drama to Albert Square, much to the delight and occasional dismay of the locals.

In 2003, Nita received a tempting offer from her family in India to return home with the promise of support for her and Anish. Embracing the opportunity, she left Walford with Robbie and Anish for a fresh start in Mumbai. Their departure left a void in Walford, but life moved on until Robbie’s return in 2010 for his sister Bianca Jackson’s wedding. He brought news that Nita, six months pregnant, couldn’t make it to the ceremony. Nita gave birth to a boy named Sami, but by 2015, Robbie returned with Sami and the announcement that he and Nita had separated.

Fast forward to 2019, Robbie visited Nita and Sami, only to return to Walford with Sami in tow. When he stopped answering his phone, a worried Nita headed to Walford to fetch her son. The situation escalated as Robbie barricaded himself and Sami inside his flat, leading Nita to threaten police involvement. Sonia Fowler intervened, and eventually, Robbie relented, handing Sami back to Nita. Three months later, Nita called Robbie with news that Sami had been injured in an accident, prompting Robbie to leave Walford to care for him.
