Gill Fowler’s journey in Albert Square was brief but incredibly impactful. She first met Mark Fowler in Newcastle in 1989, and they lived together until 1990 when Gill received the devastating news that she was HIV positive. This led her to move to London, while Mark, upon discovering his own HIV status, returned to Walford. Their paths seemed to diverge, but fate had other plans.

In 1991, Gill, now diagnosed with AIDS, sought out Mark to ensure he had been tested for HIV. Initially, Mark denied having the virus, but he eventually confessed to Gill that he was also HIV positive. Their rekindled relationship was built on mutual support and understanding, as they grappled with the uncertainty of who contracted the virus first. This bond only grew stronger as they faced the challenges of their conditions together.

Their love story culminated in a heartfelt wedding in June 1992. However, tragedy struck immediately after their nuptials. Gill’s condition rapidly worsened, and she passed away in a hospice the very next day. Her death left Mark heartbroken, but their brief reunion and marriage underscored the deep connection and love they shared.
