Sohail Karim made quite an entrance when he arrived in Walford in 1988. Initially, he took a liking to Diane Butcher, but his approach left much to be desired. Sohail tried to blackmail Diane into dating him by threatening to reveal his sister Shireen’s secret relationship with Diane’s brother, Ricky Butcher. Diane reluctantly agreed, but the date ended abruptly when Sohail tried to molest her. Furious, Diane broke things off, and a spiteful Sohail informed his father, Ashraf, about Shireen and Ricky’s relationship, stirring up even more family drama.

Sohail’s relationship with his father was already on shaky ground, and it only worsened from there. Ashraf’s heavy-handed manner and strict traditional values clashed with Sohail’s rebellious nature. When Sohail discovered his father was having an affair, it was the final straw. The revelation of Ashraf’s hypocrisy angered Sohail, fuelling his rebellion further.

Amidst the turmoil, the Karim family decided it was time for a fresh start. In 1990, Sohail, along with his parents and sister, moved to Bristol, leaving behind the chaos of Walford.
