Simon Wicks had quite the complicated family history. Born to Pat Beale, who was married to Pete Beale at the time, Simon’s paternity was a mystery due to Pat’s simultaneous affairs with Kenny Beale, Brian Wicks, and Den Watts. Although Pat suspected Brian was Simon’s father, it wasn’t confirmed until years later. Simon grew up thinking Pete was his dad, only to have that illusion shattered when Pat revealed the truth.

Simon arrived in Walford in 1985, reconnecting with Pete after a decade. He quickly got a job at The Queen Victoria pub and moved in. Soon after, Pat arrived and dropped the bombshell about Simon’s real father. Simon’s relationship with Pat, already strained by her neglectful parenting, took another hit. Despite the drama, Simon became a hit with the ladies, having flings with several Walford women. His first serious relationship was with caterer Magda Czajkowski, but it didn’t last long.

In 1988, Simon had simultaneous flings with Donna Ludlow and Cindy Williams. Cindy ultimately chose Ian Beale, making Simon jealous enough to rekindle their affair, which resulted in Cindy getting pregnant with Simon’s child. Simon, however, washed his hands of the situation, leading Cindy to marry Ian and pass the baby off as his. Despite this, Simon’s feelings for Cindy and their son, Steven, led to a continued affair, igniting a feud with Ian that culminated in a dramatic attempt on Simon’s life by Ian. Realizing the danger, Simon, Cindy, and Steven left Walford for good on Boxing Day 1990.

After leaving Walford, Simon’s life continued to be turbulent. In 1992, Cindy returned to Walford without Simon, claiming he had abandoned her and Steven. Simon eventually settled in New Zealand, where Steven joined him after learning the truth about his paternity in 2002. In 2007, Steven returned to Walford, revealing Simon’s reaction to his bisexuality. When Pat died in 2012, Simon made a poignant visit to her grave to say goodbye, closing the chapter on his tumultuous time in Walford.
