Danny Whiting, the suave and middle-class computer salesman, made quite an impact when he arrived in Walford. Tasked with helping Michelle Fowler navigate the new computer system at Walford Surgery, he and Michelle were instantly attracted to each other. Despite the age difference and his more polished demeanour, Michelle fell head over heels for Danny. Their relationship progressed quickly, and Michelle, smitten, agreed to a weekend away with him. However, her romantic dreams were shattered when she called his home and was greeted by another woman—his wife, Mandy.

Danny, ever the smooth talker, confessed to Michelle about his marriage but insisted he no longer loved Mandy and wanted to continue their relationship. Devastated, Michelle initially refused. However, when Danny made a bold late-night visit to her house, she was seduced by the gesture and agreed to be his mistress. The affair continued, but Danny’s frequent let-downs, as he prioritized his family, began to wear on Michelle. Danny tried to appease her by moving in for a few days, lying to his wife about attending a computing course. During his stay, he inadvertently became a hero by rescuing Marge Green from muggers but refused to testify to avoid exposing his whereabouts to his wife. This dishonesty and cowardice frustrated Michelle, leading to further complications when Danny used her address with the police, leaving her to deal with the fallout.

In 1990, Danny’s poor treatment left Michelle an emotional wreck. He reappeared, claiming to have left his wife and moved in with Michelle, much to her parents’ dismay. However, his true nature was revealed when Mandy arrived in Walford. Danny tried to juggle both relationships, seeking to move to Newcastle for a job promotion while maintaining his affair with Michelle. Mandy’s refusal to relocate unless he left Michelle forced Danny’s hand. Michelle, despite objections, initially agreed to move with Danny. On moving day, she changed her mind, leading to a dramatic confrontation where Danny’s aggression emerged. Michelle locked herself in, confessing she didn’t truly love him, and Danny departed in a fury.
