Michael Rose first made his mark in Albert Square in February 1996, arriving as the new market inspector. He quickly became a familiar face around the market, known for his easy-going nature and his not-so-secret crush on April Branning. Unfortunately for Michael, that particular romance never took off, but his life in Walford was anything but dull.
In August 1997, Michael’s life took a more serious turn when he visited his ex-wife Susan Rose in the hospital, where she was battling multiple sclerosis. This visit rekindled his relationship with their son, Matthew Rose, as they bonded over lunch. Gradually, Michael and Susan got back together and moved to Albert Square, trying to rebuild their family life amidst the chaos of Walford.
By December 1998, things took a twist when trainee market inspector Lisa Shaw arrived on the scene and developed an attraction to Michael. Their affair was a brief but intense fling, ultimately ending when Michael decided to move to Leeds with Susan in February 1999, seeking a fresh start. However, trouble soon followed when Matthew was wrongfully imprisoned for the murder of Saskia Duncan. Michael returned to Walford several times to support his son and found himself clashing with Steve Owen, the real culprit who had framed Matthew.
