Victoria “Nana” Moon was the heart and soul of the Moon family, bringing warmth and love to Albert Square. During the Second World War, she married her soldier sweetheart, William Moon, and was pregnant with their son, Alfred, when he left to fight. Tragically, William was killed in action, but Nana remained faithful to his memory, raising Alfred alone. After Alfred and his wife Cherry died in a car crash, Nana moved in with her orphaned grandsons, Alfie and Spencer, whom she lovingly referred to as “Nana.”

Nana moved to Walford with Alfie and Spencer in 2002, and it wasn’t long before the family became worried about her memory lapses. Initially suspected to have Alzheimer’s, it was later discovered she had water on the brain, which was successfully treated. Nana’s life took another turn when she met Wilfred Atkins, a charming pensioner, while on holiday. Their wedding plans were derailed when Alfie exposed Wilfred as a conman on their wedding day, leaving Nana heartbroken and Wilfred fleeing Walford with Pat Evans’ money.

In 2005, Nana was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm, and facing low survival odds, she decided to forgo surgery. She created a bucket list, wanting to make the most of her remaining time. Alfie, always the devoted grandson, took her to France on Armistice Day to visit William’s grave. Nana placed flowers on his grave and poignantly told him she would see him soon, a moment that deeply affected Alfie.

As Christmas approached, Alfie was determined to fulfil Nana’s wishes and make their last days together memorable. He bought her a dancing toy snowman, and they spent a bittersweet holiday decorating their home. As they watched the snowman dance, the batteries ran out, and Alfie turned to find Nana had peacefully passed away on the sofa. Nana Moon’s legacy in Walford was one of love, resilience, and the cherished memories she left behind with her grandsons.
