Kate Mitchell waltzed into Walford’s chaotic scene in quite a dramatic fashion. She first met Phil Mitchell at the hospital while he was visiting his godson, Jamie, who had been hit by a car. When Jamie tragically died, Kate was there to give Phil a shoulder to cry on, and their relationship quickly blossomed. Initially posing as a nail technician, Kate’s real identity as an undercover police officer came to light when Phil discovered a microphone under her jumper. She revealed she was trying to get evidence on him for Lisa Fowler’s murder. Although Phil went into a rage, Kate confessed she had fallen in love with him and decided to quit the police to be with him. Despite his initial anger, Phil forgave her, she opened a nail salon, and he proposed.
Their wedding day wasn’t without its own drama. Kate’s alcoholic father, Geoff, showed up and made no effort to hide his disdain for Phil, though they eventually made up for Kate’s sake. The reception at The Queen Vic took a wild turn when Kate tossed her bouquet, only for it to be caught by Lisa, who then demanded to see her daughter, Louise. Phil had gained custody of Louise after a trip to Portugal to retrieve her from Lisa. However, when Phil was framed by Den Watts and arrested for attempted robbery and assault, Kate was disgusted and ended their brief marriage. She handed Louise over to Lisa, who left Walford with her daughter once again.
Kate’s professional life took a twist when she teamed up with Den’s wife, Chrissie Watts, a hairdresser. A sizzling affair with Den led to Chrissie chopping off Kate’s hair in a fit of rage when she found out. Surprisingly, the two women later reconciled and continued working together. The final chapter of Kate’s life in Walford came after her father’s tragic suicide. She was offered the opportunity to rejoin the police force in Brighton, and she took it. Closing the salon, Kate left Walford behind for a fresh start.
