Jaggat Singh made his debut in Albert Square in November 1986, joining the Walford Surgery team to help out Doctor Harold Legg. It didn’t take long for the residents to warm up to him, especially Naima Jeffery, who showed a romantic interest in the charming doctor. The pair went on several dates, much to the dismay of Naima’s cousin Rezaul Gabir. Rezaul, furious over the Sikh-Muslim pairing, tried to provoke Jaggat into a fight at The Queen Vic. However, Jaggat simply laughed off Rezaul’s aggression, and they eventually became friends. Despite their budding romance, things never got serious between Jaggat and Naima, as she ended the relationship to marry Farrukh, a suitor from Bangladesh.
Jaggat’s time in Walford was marked by his growing interest in the elderly, thanks to his interactions with patients like Lou Beale, Ethel Skinner, and Dot Cotton. This newfound passion led him to leave Albert Square in December 1987 for a full-time position working with the elderly in a Northern home. Before leaving, Jaggat managed to persuade Ethel to move into sheltered housing at Prosper Estate, showing his genuine care for his patients’ well-being.
