Nadia Borovac’s whirlwind journey in Walford began when she met Phil Mitchell in a bar in Southampton. Phil, feeling sorry for Nadia who feared deportation, agreed to marry her so she could stay in England. They tied the knot on 8 July 1993, and Nadia returned to her boyfriend, Marku. However, Nadia reappeared in November 1993, needing Phil to play the role of her husband more convincingly to avoid deportation. By this time, Phil had started a relationship with Kathy Beale, and his failure to inform Kathy about Nadia led to instant tension.

Nadia moved in with Phil to convince the Home Office of their legitimate relationship, making life difficult for Phil and Kathy. She seduced a drunken Phil at Christmas 1993, leading to a brief affair that she later revealed to Kathy. Phil, regretting the tryst, threw Nadia out in January 1994 after his brother Grant threatened her. Despite this, Nadia continued to complicate Phil’s life. When Phil decided to marry Kathy later that year, he needed a divorce from Nadia. After initially refusing, Nadia eventually agreed to divorce him and move to Germany, but only if Phil paid her £1,000. Reluctantly, Phil paid the money, and Nadia disappeared from Walford.
