Syd Chambers made quite the entrance in Walford, along with her trusty collie, Sugar. February 2009 saw her returning Gumbo, Bradley Branning’s missing dog, which led to a charming cup of tea with Bradley. Things clicked, and by March, Bradley had finally plucked up the courage to call her. Their evening together faced a brief interruption by Stacey Slater, but it didn’t put Syd off. Finding Walford to her liking, Syd moved into the flat above the bookmakers and began dating Bradley. She was drawn to his honesty, especially when he admitted he was unemployed, earning him a kiss and the start of their romance.

However, Syd’s sudden disappearance made Bradley doubt her interest. When she resurfaced, she insisted her job as a nurse kept her busy. Bradley remained sceptical, prompting Syd to prove her affection with a rose and an intimate night together. Things seemed rosy until Syd unexpectedly ended their relationship, leaving Bradley heartbroken. A mysterious man seen leaving her flat made Bradley consider a move to Edinburgh. Syd, catching wind of this, rushed to explain the man was her babysitter and introduced Bradley to her deaf son, Noah.

When Bradley was hospitalized, his dad Max Branning urged Syd to visit, but her commitment to Noah held her back. That changed when Noah expressed an interest in Bradley, leading to a visit. Then came the bombshell: a job offer in Canada. While Noah was excited and assumed Bradley would join them, Bradley hesitated, torn about leaving his family, especially his recently returned grandfather. Syd understood but was heartbroken. After a confrontation with Stacey, Bradley decided to go to Canada with Syd and Noah.

Their departure on 9 October wasn’t the end. They returned on 7 December to visit Bradley’s mother, Rachel, in hospital. However, Bradley confessed his lingering feelings for Stacey and refused to return to Canada. Syd tried to convince him that Stacey was causing trouble, but Bradley was resolute. After helping with the luggage, he bid them farewell. Heartbroken, Syd and Noah left Walford without him.
