May Wright brought a special blend of drama and desperation to Albert Square. Her arrival as the new GP, taking over from Oliver Cousins, seemed innocent enough, but we all know nothing stays quiet for long in Walford. It didn’t take long for her true colours to show when it was revealed she was married to Rob Minter, who just so happened to be dating Dawn Swann. Now, that’s a love triangle for the books!

May’s desperation for a baby with Rob, and the subsequent betrayal when she found out Dawn was pregnant with his child, led her down a dark path. She tried to strike a deal with Dawn, offering her £10,000 to hand over the baby. But when that plan went awry, May’s schemes turned more sinister. After reconciling with Rob, they tricked Dawn into believing they could all raise the baby together. This ruse culminated in a harrowing ordeal where May attempted to forcibly take the baby, but Dawn managed to escape. The drama didn’t end there as May continued to hover around Dawn, desperate to claim baby Summer as her own.

In 2008, May resurfaced under a false name, still haunted by her lost chance at motherhood. She hired Dawn’s fiancé, Jase Dyer, to decorate her house and even offered to babysit Summer. But her distress was evident when Jase found her unconscious with an empty vodka bottle. May’s longing for Summer was palpable, culminating in a chilling confrontation on Summer’s birthday, where she took Dawn and Summer hostage. She confessed her life had fallen apart: divorced from Rob, who was now engaged and expecting a baby with someone else, and having spent time in a psychiatric hospital after being sectioned. Her actions pushed the boundaries, turning a family home into a scene straight out of a thriller.

The climax of May’s storyline was nothing short of explosive — literally. After being thrown out of the bedroom she had barricaded, she went downstairs, opened a music box she had brought for Summer, turned on the gas, and lit a cigarette. The resulting explosion took her life, ending her tragic arc in Walford.
