Marcus Christie, the solicitor with a knack for getting the Mitchell brothers out of sticky situations, first graced Albert Square in November 1990. Employed by Phil and Grant Mitchell, Marcus quickly became known for his ability to bend the rules just enough to keep his clients out of trouble. One of his most memorable early moves was conning Dan Sullivan into selling his share of The Queen Victoria to Phil. Marcus was the kind of lawyer who knew how to play the game, and he played it well.

Fast forward to December 2004, and Marcus was up to his old tricks again. Just before Christmas, he managed to con Sam Hunter by convincing her that Phil, who was on the run, needed all the money he could get. Sam, in a desperate bid to help her brother, sold the entire Mitchell empire, including The Queen Vic, to Den Watts and handed over the cash to Marcus. In a classic Christie move, Marcus then fled Walford with the money, leaving Sam and the Mitchells high and dry. It was later revealed that Marcus was in cahoots with Den all along, helping him reclaim his old stomping ground.

After a decade-long hiatus, Marcus resurfaced in July 2014, much to the surprise of Walford’s residents. Sharon Rickman had tracked him down, discovering that he was operating under a different name at a law firm. Sharon, ever the schemer, blackmailed Marcus into helping her gain access to Phil’s finances, threatening to expose him to Phil if he didn’t comply. Marcus, knowing full well the wrath of Phil Mitchell, reluctantly agreed to Sharon’s demands.

In August 2015, Marcus found himself back in the thick of things when Max Branning hired him to defend against the murder charge of Lucy Beale. Phil, never one to shy away from a confrontation, tried to intimidate Marcus into dropping the case. Meanwhile, Jane Beale, determined to see Max acquitted, concocted a fake alibi with Marcus’s help. Marcus, ever the opportunist, pointed the finger at Max’s daughter, Abi, causing a rift in the Branning family. Despite his best efforts, Max was found guilty, thanks to a bribed jury foreman. However, justice eventually prevailed when Bobby Beale confessed to the murder, clearing Max’s name.
