Sylvie Carter, the matriarch with a penchant for chaos, brought a whirlwind of drama to Albert Square. As the mother of Shirley and Tina Carter, and the adoptive mother of Mick Carter, Sylvie’s arrival in Walford was anything but smooth. Her battle with dementia added a layer of complexity to her character, making her both a source of heartache and unexpected humour. Sylvie’s unpredictable nature kept the Carters on their toes, and her antics often left the residents of Walford both exasperated and entertained.

Sylvie’s relationship with her children was a rollercoaster of emotions. Shirley, always the tough one, struggled to forgive her mother for past mistakes, while Tina’s softer side often led her to try and bridge the gap. Mick, caught in the middle, tried to keep the peace, but even he found it challenging to manage Sylvie’s outbursts. Despite the tension, there were moments of genuine affection and reconciliation that tugged at the heartstrings of viewers.

Her attempts to help behind the bar were nothing short of disastrous, with broken glasses and spilled pints becoming a regular occurrence. Eventually the choice was made to look after Sylvie rather than place her in care, but then one night, when the power to the Square cut out, there was a feeling something was wrong.

Sylvie had gone to play her music while sitting in the bath. The radio had fallen in and electrocuted her, devastating her family.
