With a past as murky as the Thames and a personality as volatile as a Branning affair, Stuart Highway arrived out of nowhere in 2018, quickly becoming one of the Square’s most talked-about residents – and not for all the right reasons.

Stuart’s early days in Walford were marked by his complicated relationship with his childhood friend, Mick Carter. Their friendship, once solid, was tested to the limits as Stuart’s darker side emerged. From his twisted games to his vendetta against Mick, Stuart’s actions left everyone questioning his true intentions. But beneath the tough exterior and the menacing grin, there was a man battling his own demons, trying to find his place in the world. Surprisingly, despite various arguments and fisticuffs, Mick and Stuart at least agreed to be civil. After all, they both had to live in Walford.

Stuart’s battle with breast cancer showed a different side to the usually tough-as-nails giant. His relationship with Rainie Cross blossomed during this time, and their unconventional love story became a beacon of hope amidst the drama. Together, they navigated the highs and lows of Stuart’s treatment, proving that even the most unlikely couples can find strength in each other. They married, albeit through a hearse window when the door got stuck!

In the end, Stuart’s time in Walford was a mix of madness, mayhem, and moments of redemption. Whether he was causing trouble or fighting for his life, Stuart Highway left an indelible mark on Albert Square. As Stuart and Rainie left the Square together, in a stolen hearse, they left testament to the fact that even the most troubled souls can find their way, one chaotic step at a time.

He returned briefly, for his father Jonno’s funeral, in late 2025.
