Pam Coker was a woman with a heart as big as her flower arrangements. From the moment she set up her flower stall from Spring Lane on Bridge Street Market, Pam’s warmth and kindness made her a beloved figure. Whether she was arranging bouquets or lending a sympathetic ear, Pam always knew how to brighten up even the gloomiest of days.

Pam’s life was a tapestry of love and loss. She and her husband Les ran the local funeral parlour, a business that brought its own set of challenges and heartaches. Despite the sombre nature of their work, Pam’s positivity never wavered. Her relationship with Les was the stuff of romance novels – full of devotion, a few secrets, and the occasional dramatic revelation. Who could forget the time she discovered Les’ alter ego, Christine? It was a twist that left everyone in Walford talking.

One of the most poignant chapters in Pam’s story was the tragic death of her grandson, Paul Coker. Paul’s murder in a homophobic attack was a devastating blow, and Pam’s grief was palpable. Yet, in true Pam fashion, she turned her pain into a force for good, becoming an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and supporting Ben Mitchell through his own struggles. Her strength and resilience during this time were truly inspiring.

Pam’s friendships in Albert Square were just as vibrant as her floral displays. She formed a close bond with Billy Mitchell, often stepping in to help with his children and offering sage advice. Her camaraderie with the other market traders added a touch of humour to her story, especially when she and Mo Harris posed for a naked charity calendar – a moment that had everyone in stitches.

In 2016, Pam and Les decided to leave Walford for a quieter life in Weymouth, but Pam’s occasional returns to the Square always bring a wave of nostalgia.
