As the daughter of Frank Butcher and June Butcher, Janine’s early life was marked by tragedy with the death of her mother. Moving to Walford with her father and stepmother Pat, Janine quickly became known for her manipulative and often ruthless behaviour. Her ability to charm and deceive in equal measure made her a demon child and, as she grew older, a cruel little madame who would make no shortage of enemies.

Janine’s romantic escapades were plentiful and usually committed to with a motive, a getaway plan and a bag for his worldly goods. Her marriage to Barry Evans ended when she pushed him off a cliff, proclaiming famously ‘if only he hadn’t been wearing slip on shoes!’ Not one to be deterred by a little thing like murder, Janine went on to marry several more times, including to Ryan Malloy and Michael Moon. Each relationship was fraught with drama, betrayal, and the usual bout of blackmail, showcasing Janine’s knack for turning even the simplest romance into a high-stakes game.

Her feuds with other residents of Walford were equally memorable. From her long-standing rivalry with stepmother Pat to her clashes with the Slater family, Janine never shied away from a confrontation. Her sharp tongue and quick wit often left her adversaries reeling, and her ability to bounce back from even the most dire situations made her incredibly persistent. Whether she was scheming to take over The Queen Vic or plotting her next move, Janine’s presence always promised fireworks.

She didn’t disappoint the last time she visited Walford. She fell hard for Mick Carter, not allowing a little thing like his previous marriage to Linda get in her way. She began a vendetta against Linda, convincing people she had relapsed and framing her for a DUI.

She eventually got her man, but their marriage didn’t last very long. Two days after saying their vows, Janine lost control of her car while escaping her comeuppance and they went careening off a cliff! Although she and Linda would emerge from the depths, Mick’s body was never recovered.

Janine had lost it all again, pregnant, alone and last seen carted off by police, facing charges of perverting the cause of justice. She gave birth in prison shortly afterwards.
