As part of the first Punjabi Sikh family in the show’s history, Jags, along with his brothers Kheerat and Vinny, quickly started exactly as they would go on, with Jags involved in a scrap with Ben Mitchell over a stolen car, setting the stage for his knack for getting into sticky situations.

His mother, Suki Panesar, was a formidable matriarch whose manipulative ways often put Jags in difficult positions. To protect her youngest son Vinny, believing Jags wouldn’t get a custodial sentence, Suki framed Jags for a robbery and assault that he did not commit. This betrayal led to Jags’ imprisonment, and the Panesar family were stunned at the lengths Suki would go to maintain control of them.

Although Ben and Kheerat become close friends, it was Ben’s heavies that protected Jags from retribution against his family name while he was inside. When a falling out between the Panesars and the Mitchells went wrong, Ben called his heavies aside and, within weeks, Jags Panesar was dead. His son Tyrion would grow up with mum Habiba, who he had idolised, away from the Square and would never know his family.
