Name: Daniel Cook
First Appeared: 25th June 2019
Last Appeared: 27th February 2020
Played by: Adrian Edmondson

As first impressions go, Daniel Cook made a bad one. He was a cancer patient (so you could understand why he was grumpy as heck) and he didn’t care who heard him complain. He was offensive and abrasive, but had a ‘seize the moment’ attitude to life, even when dying. He also had a dark sense of humour, which endeared him to Jean Slater. She appreciated honesty.

Their relationship soon evolved from friendship to romance, with Daniel becoming a significant support for Jean as she battled her own cancer. However, he faked his own death to spare Jean the pain of watching him deteriorate, only to return later, revealing his true feelings for her!

Daniel’s final days were spent making the most of his time with Jean, creating happy moments despite his worsening condition. While complaining to Jean while sat on Arthur’s bench in the Square gardens, he slipped away as Jean sat next to him, nattering on. Something tells us that that’s what he would have wanted.
