As the daughter of Karen Taylor and Mitch Baker, Chantelle had aspirations. She was not going to let life pass her by while claiming benefits. No, she was going to do the work and when she wed Gray Atkins, sophisticated lawyer from the city, everyone thought she had it made. She had a secure home, two beautiful children in Mack and Mia and a loving, handsome and rich husband.

Chantelle didn’t brag about any of this – it was not in her nature. She was just going with the flow. But the picture-perfect family was only a smokescreen – behind the scenes Gray was a controlling and coercive bully, putting Chantelle down and frequent stopping her from living. He even held her under the water in the bath as punishment when she disobeyed! Eventually, Chantelle attempted to escape but it was too late: Gray pushed her into an open dishwater and, impaled on a blade, left her to die.

Acting the grieving widower, his comeuppance would eventually come, leaving Karen horrified at the monster her family had unknowingly let into their midst and who had so callously taken her precious girl from her.
