One might argue that everything that Ben Mitchell has done is not his fault. It would be so easy for him to blame his tendencies on his parents and their embittered past – but if he was being honest with himself, he would see that he’s the one who has failed to learn from his mistakes.

When Kathy ‘died’, Ben returned to Walford as a young boy, completely torn between Daddy Mitchell Phil and big bro Ian. He found solace in musicals, encouraged by cousins or friends in the know, like Peggy, Roxy and Heather. Of course, Phil saw musicals as girly and naturally Ben started hiding. He hid so much that abuser Stella found him an easy target.

By his teenage years, he’d already been to youth detention for GBH. They should have left his cell door unlocked, cos he then accidentally murdered friend Heather Trott! He’s become a father (Lexi is his biggest achievement!), he’s dabbled in drugs, both personally and ‘professionally,’ he’s arranged hits, kidnapping and, at one point, people trafficking! His first love Paul was beaten to death and Callum saved his heart – only for Lewis Butler to nearly rip them apart in a violent assault. When Ben was arrested for fraud, Callum stood by him to raise Lexi – but Johnny Carter caught his eye.

Now, Ben is in prison, awaiting divorce from Callum. But he’s now been transferred from the US – where he’d been serving time – to Manchester. It can only be a matter of time before Ben returns to Walford.
