WHO?

Name: Barry Clark
First Appeared: 18th November 1986
Last Appeared: 13th December 2022
Played by: Gary Hailes
Barry Clark’s family were known to be thugs and bullies, so it wouldn’t surprise anyone to learn that Barry left home young and moved to Walford simply so he could be apologetically himself. Out and proud, Barry didn’t really care who knew – it was his life. Colin was a bit more bashful about it, but Barry Clark knew who he was and was happy, selling records on the market.
When Dot realised that the pair were a couple, she was horrified and went around speaking to everyone about catching AIDS, while Barry fell under the sway of Nick Cotton, getting involved with some dodgy dealings. When the police discovered that Colin and Barry had been living together when Barry was under the age of consent (21 in the UK at the time), Barry had no choice but to end the relationship and the age gap between them didn’t help matters: Colin was neat, Barry was a slob.
Eventually, Barry left the Square, breaking Colin’s heart. Jump to decades later, and who should pull up outside the Queen Vic to escort Colin home from Dot’s funeral? None other than Barry himself, who planted a big kiss on his partner as they drove back to their lives together…
