When Julie Perkins and Billy Mitchell were teenagers in care together, one thing led to another and a baby was born. The child, named Dan, was adopted into the system and ultimately died before Billy and Julie could meet him as an adult.

But he left something else behind: a daughter Lola, also now in the care system. When Billy tracked her down, it was instantly obvious which girl was Lola: blonde, feisty, mouthy and ready to fight for her place in the world, she was definitely a Mitchell!

She came to the Square and became the apple of Billy’s eye. She fell in love with teenage sweetheart Jay Brown and had a child with Ben Mitchell, daughter Lexi, a chip off the old block if ever there was one.

But Lola was destined to die young. She developed an inoperable brain tumour and faced the end with intense dignity, preparing her friends and family, marrying Jay and left the world peacefully in 2023.

But she’s always about: a picture on a bar, a recorded message for a special birthday… Lola will never be forgotten.
