Even as a teenage boy, Dean, or Deano as he preferred then, was showing signs of being messed up. The first time he went out on the Square he spiked Stacey Slater’s drink to ‘lighten her up.’ So, to most of us, Dean was always going to go down a dark path.

At first, it seemed like he had simply got it wrong. He had made a mistake. He redeemed himself, working on the market, getting along well with most of his peers and under the watchful eye of dad Kevin.

When Kevin died, Dean took it all out on estranged mum Shirley and he left, having spent time in prison and going through a particularly unpleasant time that he never elaborated on.

In 2014, Dean, now more mature and stable, returned to Walford under his grandfather’s appeals and, although it took some time, mended things with Shirley. He found out he had been a dad and tried to do the right thing.

But his treatment of women was appalling and when he raped Linda Carter, his own sister-in-law, there was no going back, He denied the whole thing and made Linda’s life a misery, only backing off when he was arrested by police for an attack on Roxy Mitchell and then slinked off into the night.

He should have stayed away, but returned in 2023, a supposedly ‘silent’ partner for Beale’s Eels. After the Six framed him for Keanu’s murder, he admitted raping Linda on the stand, his previously denial on record. Now nobody believed a word he said – and he was last seen sent to prison for nine years – one year for every year he had denied his atrocity against Linda.
