Ash always knew she wanted to be a doctor. It was just built into her to help people. Surprising really, when you consider that her parents were the scheming Nish and Suki Panesar.

Ash was an out and proud bisexual, something her mother detested (for various self-hating reasons) and went against every family order given: independent was Ash and she was going to stay that way.

The Panesars followed her to Walford, interfering in her relationships, her job and her life. Suki even sabotaged her career and she missed out on a top job.

After learning all about her parents’ lies and the murder of Ranveer, Ash threw her hands up, gave up and took a job doctoring in Canada, far enough away from her family for her to flourish. At least she made peace with her mother before she did.
