Warm, witty and full of wisdom, Arshad Ahmed had a kind heart, and along with his wife Mariam had fostered hundreds of children over the years. Moving into the house owned by their nephew Masood, they brought a brightness and a glow to their corner of the Square.

They took pride in every one of those foster children, but the one they were closest to was Adam Bateman. When he cheated on Honey Mitchell with their own granddaughter Habiba, they were devastated. They had raised him better. In the end, the Ahmeds left the Square to travel elsewhere – and were delighted to see so many of their former foster children there by their side to wave them off.
