Although he was coined ‘Halfwit’ by the ever-insensitive Shirley, Callum Highway definitely needed a confidence boost when he first appeared on the Square – and he was hardly a criminal mastermind!

Away from the army and needing quick cash, Callum was easily led, by his friends, his brother Stuart, his father etc, into a brief life of crime. But when he came to Walford and had gotten away from his family, he was accepted by fellow soldier Lee Carter’s family as a somewhat surrogate son. He certainly replaced Lee in Whitney’s eyes, who made plans to marry the nervous Cal!

But the excitement and confidence that Callum needed didn’t come from his non-wedding with Whitney. It came in the unlikely form of Ben Mitchell, who Callum fell hopelessly for. Ben, surprisingly, felt the same, and the pair were married – only separated when Ben was sentenced to prison in America for six years.

Now raising Lexi with best friend Jay and an honorary Mitchell, Callum aims to be a good father and a good police officer. He just needs to believe in himself – he’d be surprised what he’s capable of.
