Well, this is certainly unexpected! We expected some nostalgia from Nigel as his dementia storyline ramps up towards Christmas, but this is the gift we never knew we needed!
Yes, for the first time since 2016, Pat Evans is back on Albert Square! But how, we hear you cry, since Pat definitely died surrounded by her loved ones on New Year’s Day 2012!
The answer is simple: as Nigel’s condition deteriorates over the festive period, he starts to remember the events of Christmas 1995, a time when Pat was still at her peak, dishing out whatever lessons she felt the young needed to learn. A quick look at the set around actors Paul Bradley and Pam St. Clement reveal the old pattern on the chairs they’re sitting on in the Queen Vic – as well as the old pub ashtrays from yesteryear!
Seriously, we could not be more excited!
And she’s not the only one. As revealed a day later, her on-screen step son Barry Evans will appear in the episode as well, with Shaun Williamson reprising his role!
Barry was last seen on New Year’s Day 2004 (maybe there’s a theme there…) when Janine Butcher pushed him to his death in the Scottish Highlands! If only he hadn’t worn slip-on shoes!
All of this is without discussing last week’s action, which saw poor Teddy charged with Okie‘s murder! Surely, this can’t be the end for the poor bloke, who’s had a hard enough year as is, after finding out Barney isn’t his son!
This week, in need of some support, Lauren makes a decision – that has terrible consequences as she’s scammed out of her savings! It’s part of the BBC Scam Safe week, where a number of programmes will be taking on the topic. For more information, please go here.
Elsewhere this week, Jasmine‘s secrets start coming to light – when we meet her mum Anita! But when Lauren and Cindy push too far, Cindy is pushed back – and is left lifeless at the bottom of the stairs at Beales Eels! Will Oscar help her in time?
And what is so secret that Jasmine will go this far to hide it?
And finally, we prepare to say a fond farewell to Anna Knight and Freddie Slater – who look set to end up in the sun together! Ah, young love!
Mind how you all go! Be more cautious than Vicki – she’s got a lot of explaining to do right now…

Cindy and Lauren are suspicious over Jasmine, so when she leaves her phone unattended, they use it to contact her mother Anita and meet up with her.
Anita warns Cindy and Lauren that Jasmine has a sinister side. When Cindy then tells Jasmine that she’s spoken to her mother, Jasmine flies into a rage and pushes her down the stairs.
Meanwhile, Vicki gets angry over the behaviour of a male punter at the club. Chelsea is unimpressed and warns her not to let Joel’s actions affect the way she views all men. Later, Ross tries to join Vicki on the dancefloor as it’s their anniversary, but she’s annoyed by his presumptuous behaviour.
Elsewhere, Lauren is intrigued by the idea of experimental new treatments for Jimmy.

Oscar finds Cindy unconscious and raises the alarm.
He soon quizzes Jasmine and she initially denies pushing Cindy. However, realising that this cover story won’t hold, Jasmine makes up a lie about what happened.
Meanwhile, Ross makes a heartfelt apology to Vicki for getting things so wrong with Joel.
Elsewhere, Nigel and Kojo work on a film project together.
Also today, Freddie offers to join Anna when she goes travelling.

Lauren learns that the initial cost for Jimmy’s experimental treatment would be £3,000, but she isn’t sure where she’d get the cash from.
Later, during the quiz fundraiser at The Vic, an incident with Jimmy makes Lauren even more desperate to get some extra help.
Meanwhile, Kat and Alfie are both bombarded by calls from a mystery number. Zoe makes allegations over who could be responsible, but her family disagrees. Anthony steps in to provide a shoulder to cry on for Zoe.
Elsewhere, Ross and Vicki agree that they’ll take things slowly.
Also today, Gina opposes Anna’s plans to go travelling with Freddie, and the feud between Ian and Elaine develops further during the quiz night.

Zoe receives a Christmas card containing a sinister message.
Meanwhile, Lauren panics when she realises that she’s been scammed by the “doctor” she consulted with over Jimmi’s experimental treatment.
Elsewhere, Elaine asks Kim to use her online influence to drum up publicity ahead of the Peacock Palace opening. Kim accidentally makes disparaging comments on a livestream, which negatively affects her following.
Later, Howie decides that he needs to step up and save the family finances.
