Anthony Trueman brought a mix of drama, charm, and complexity to Albert Square when he first arrived on EastEnders. His storylines were anything but straightforward, often entangled with family drama and romantic escapades. Anthony’s mother, Audrey, was deeply involved in his life, often disapproving of his choices, especially his relationship with Kat Slater. Audrey’s meddling led to frequent clashes, with Anthony rebelling against her interference. When Audrey passed away, Anthony’s long-lost father, Patrick, arrived for the funeral, reuniting with his sons after decades apart. The Trueman brothers eventually accepted Patrick, but Paul grew suspicious and secretly conducted a DNA test, revealing that while Anthony was Patrick’s biological son, Paul was not

Anthony’s love life was no less complicated. After breaking up with Kat, he began an affair with her teenage daughter, Zoe Slater. The affair led to Zoe disowning Kat and running away when Anthony revealed he was still in love with Kat. Although their relationship resumed, Kat struggled to fit into Anthony’s world and ultimately broke up with him just as he was about to propose. Kat later discovered she was pregnant but decided to have an abortion. Persuaded by her boss, Alfie Moon, to keep the baby, she suffered a miscarriage on her way to tell Anthony about the pregnancy. Realizing Anthony wasn’t the one for her, Kat ended the relationship for good.

In 2003, Anthony left Walford after causing the death of a pregnant patient, choosing to travel and escape the turmoil. He returned briefly in 2004 for Patrick’s wedding to Yolande Duke and again in 2005 for Paul’s funeral. After spending several years in Cambodia, Anthony settled in Glasgow, married a woman named Sophie, and started a family. His dedication to his work led to him being featured in a medical journal in 2014, which Patrick proudly purchased, only to have it vandalized later.

Anthony’s sense of duty to his family never waned. Upon hearing about Patrick’s stroke, he returned to Walford to support his father. Despite the obligation he felt, Anthony couldn’t forgive Patrick for his absence during his childhood. He provided Denise Fox with a £2000 cheque to help care for Patrick and returned to Scotland, discussing his children, including his son Euan. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Anthony returned to care for Patrick in the hospital. Following the recovery, he invited Patrick and Sheree Trueman to stay with him during the lockdown, allowing them to mend their strained relationship.

In 2025, surprising Patrick and Yolande for their second wedding, Anthony came home to Walford. But he had a secret: he and wife Sophie had seperated and she had put a restraining order against him for reasons unknown.

But Zoe and Anthony’s past reared in more ways than one: first he attempted to rekindle their relationship, but grew too possessive. He followed her around the Square, worrying endlessly and eventually discovers that Zoe’s twins had survived and decided that he was the father – although Zoe never actually confirmed it.

On Christmas Day, after telling Kat that Zoe’s children were dead, the truth came out and Anthony savaged Zoe’s reputation in front of a packed pub. A violent confrontation upstairs later left Zoe unconscious by Anthony’s hands, and the doctor with a head wound. When Kat awoke Zoe minutes later, Anthony was dead next to her…
