Dotty Cotton, or Kirsty Dorothy Cotton to use her full name, is like a dark cloud suddenly appearing during a sunny spell. As the daughter of the infamous Nick Cotton and granddaughter of the beloved Dot Branning, Dotty’s life was destined to be anything but ordinary. Indeed, even at a young age she crafted several wily plots, involving a sinister plot with her father to kill Dot for her inheritance! Thankfully, Dotty had a change of heart, saving Dot and settling into life in Walford.

Dotty’s early years in Walford were marked by her often devious behaviour. She was a pint-sized troublemaker with a knack for getting under everyone’s skin, especially little Tiffany Butcher. However, beneath her scheming exterior, there was always a glimmer of vulnerability, hinting at the troubled childhood she endured. Eventually she came to regard Dot with extreme affection and Dot was heartbroken when she went to live with her mum Sandy.

Dotty returned to Walford in 2019, bringing with her a fresh set of dramas. She quickly made her mark by blackmailing Ian Beale and getting involved in various romantic entanglements, including a tumultuous affair with Keegan Butcher-Baker. She got a job in the club and did surprisingly well, but Ruby’s arrest put that job in the ground.

After the reading of Dot Branning’s will, finding out she was due nothing, she decided to leave the Square. She stuck her fingers up like Mary before her, but cursing the day she ever returned to Walford…
